Honor Oak Park, the road and the parade
The name causes confusion, so here is the short version. Honor Oak Park is a road, a station and the name most people use for the district. There is no park called Honor Oak Park.
The road runs from Brockley Rise at the bottom up to Forest Hill Road at the top. Midway is the station, and beside it a parade of shops, cafes, restaurants and a couple of pubs. It is small, busy and well loved.
Parking on the parade is tight, and buses stop right outside the station. Drivers usually collect from Grierson Road, Ballina Street or Lessing Street, a few steps away. Tell us which shop or cafe you are in.
Honor Oak Park station
The station has Overground trains on the Windrush line and Southern trains to London Bridge. It is the main reason commuters move here.
The platforms are in a cutting, reached by stairs and lifts. In the evening, particularly in bad weather, people ring for a car to take them up the hill to Honor Oak Rise, Boveney Road or Tyson Road. These are short trips, and they are welcome.
Drivers wait on Honor Oak Park near the station entrance where space allows, or on a side road. If your train is late, call 020 8778 8888 and we will hold the car.
Brockley Rise and Stondon Park
At the bottom of Honor Oak Park, the main road is Brockley Rise, which becomes Stondon Park and then Brockley Road heading north. This is the B218, and it is the principal bus route between Forest Hill and Brockley.
There are shops and takeaways at the junction, and the roads off it are long terraces. Our drivers use this route several times a day, since it leads towards New Cross and the Old Kent Road. That is the way described on our Sydenham to London Bridge Station taxi page, and Honor Oak customers are already part of the way there.
One Tree Hill and the Oak of Honor
One Tree Hill is the wooded summit above the station. Legend says Elizabeth I rested under an oak there in 1602, and the tree became the Oak of Honor that gave the area its name. A successor oak stands on the spot today.
The view from the top takes in the whole London skyline. The climb is steep, though, by steps from Honor Oak Park or by a path from Brenchley Gardens.
Visitors sometimes ask us to drop them at the Brenchley Gardens side, where the slope is gentler. We can collect from St Augustine's Church on the other side afterwards.
Cemetery and crematorium visits
Camberwell New Cemetery and Honor Oak Crematorium are on Brenchley Gardens. Camberwell Old Cemetery is close by on Forest Hill Road. Both are large, and both bring regular bookings.
We take families to services and to visit graves. If you would like the driver to wait, ask for a wait and return. For funerals, tell us the number of mourners and we will send vehicles that keep close family together.
Flowers, an elderly relative, a walking frame. Tell us what you are bringing, and the driver will make room and take time.
Parks and playing fields
Honor Oak has plenty of open ground. Blythe Hill Fields, to the east, has one of the best views in south London and a popular playground. Honor Oak Recreation Ground hosts weekend football. Peckham Rye Park and Common are five minutes north west.
On Saturday and Sunday mornings, parents shuttle children to matches. A 6 seater taxi will carry a group of young players and their bags to an away ground.

Schools around Honor Oak
Primary schools on Stillness Road, Dalmain Road, Turnham Road and Fairlawn Park draw families from across the district, and Stillness Road in particular gets congested at drop off.
Secondary pupils travel to Forest Hill, Sydenham, Dulwich and Brockley. For a regular morning or afternoon car, see our school run taxi page.
Nights out and late returns
The parade has a good choice of places to eat and drink. Peckham, with its rooftop bars and late venues, is ten minutes away. Brockley and East Dulwich are closer still.
After the last Overground, a booked minicab is the direct way back. Reserve it before you go. Private hire cars cannot be hailed in the street, and that rule keeps a record of who is driving you.
Airports and main line stations
Planning a longer trip? From Honor Oak the routes are much the same as from Sydenham, with a few minutes saved on journeys north.
For the river crossing and the Royal Docks, see London City Airport cabs from Sydenham. For holiday flights from the south, see the minicab from Sydenham to Gatwick Airport page.
For trains to the north, our Sydenham to King's Cross Station taxi page has the route and timings.
