Why groups book one big car
Moving seven people in ordinary cars takes two vehicles. Somebody always ends up in the wrong car, one driver gets lost and half the party arrives ten minutes behind the other.
With a seven seater minicab, the evening starts when the door slides shut. Everyone leaves together and arrives together. The conversation carries on in the car. And when the fare is divided seven ways, each share is small.
It also means one booking to manage. One time, one pickup point, one phone number for the driver.
Seven seats and how they are arranged
Our seven seat vehicles are MPVs with three rows. There are seats beside the driver, a middle row and a rear row. Sliding doors on most models make the back rows easy to reach.
The rearmost seats are a little smaller, as they are in every MPV. For a 20 minute ride into Forest Hill or Crystal Palace, nobody minds. For a two hour run to an airport, put the shorter members of your party in the back. They will thank you for the legroom elsewhere.
The luggage question with seven on board
We will be direct about this, because it is the thing that catches groups out.
When all seven seats are in use, the boot is small. It holds soft bags, coats, shopping and perhaps two cabin cases. It will not hold seven suitcases.
So a full seven seater is perfect for nights out, restaurants, weddings and matches. For an airport trip with seven travellers and full luggage, you need the 8 seater minibus or a second car for the cases. Tell us what you are bringing, and we will recommend what works.
If you are five or six people with holiday bags, our 6 seater taxi page explains why fewer seats in use often suits you better.
The 8 seater minibus
For eight passengers, or for seven with real luggage, we send a minibus. It has eight passenger seats and a larger load area behind them.
Minibuses are popular for these jobs.
- Airport transfers for two families travelling together
- Stag and hen groups heading to a station or airport
- Wedding guests going from the ceremony to the reception
- Work teams travelling to a conference or an away day
There are fewer minibuses than MPVs, so book early, particularly for Saturdays and for the summer months.
Nights out from Sydenham
Friday and Saturday evenings are the busiest time for our larger vehicles. Groups head from Sydenham to the restaurants on Lordship Lane, the bars around Crystal Palace Triangle, Brixton, Peckham and central London.
Book both legs. Getting a seven seater at 1am without a booking is difficult anywhere in London, and private hire cannot be hailed in the street. Give us a pickup point and a time for the way home, and a mobile number.
If the night runs on, call 020 8778 8888 and we will move the car. We are open all night.
Weddings and family events
Weddings need people moved in batches. Bridesmaids to the venue. Grandparents from the house to the church. Guests from the reception back to their hotels.
A seven seater does the shuttle work well. Tell us the timings and addresses in advance, and we will plan the vehicles around the day. For guests staying locally, see our hotel transfer taxi page.
Funerals and memorials are also occasions where families want to travel together. We will send a clean, quiet vehicle and a driver who understands the day.
Sports teams, matches and concerts
Seven is a handy number for sport. A five a side squad with substitutes. A group of supporters going to Selhurst Park, which is about 15 minutes from Sydenham on a normal day and longer on a match day. Friends heading to the O2, Wembley or Twickenham.
Event traffic is heavy, and roads close near stadiums. The driver will drop you as near as the road closures allow and agree a meeting point for afterwards, away from the main exits. It can take 20 minutes for crowds to clear, so plan the return time with that in mind.
Airport and station journeys for groups
Larger groups travelling with hand luggage only can use the seven seater for airport runs. City breaks with cabin bags are a good example.
For full luggage, book the minibus. Our Luton Airport taxi from Sydenham and Sydenham to Stansted Airport transfers pages cover the two airports where groups most often fly on low cost airlines. Splitting one fare across seven or eight people usually compares well with rail tickets for everyone.
For rail trips, the Sydenham to Euston Station taxi page has timings for trains to the north west.
Christmas parties and the busy season
December is when group bookings peak. Office parties, family gatherings and New Year's Eve all need large vehicles on the same few nights. Our advice is to book as soon as your venue is confirmed. Give us the finish time printed on the invitation, and ring on the night if the party looks like overrunning.
New Year's Eve is the single busiest night of the year. Roads in central London close for the fireworks, and prices across the trade reflect the demand. Ask for your quote early, so you know where you stand.
Workplace transport and shift changes
Employers in the area sometimes need to move a team at once. Care staff finishing a late shift, contractors heading to a site, hotel workers starting before the first buses. A seven seater on a standing booking can collect several people on one loop and deliver them together. Accounts are invoiced weekly.
Children in a seven seater
Under 18s count as passengers, and each one needs a seat. Child seats are available on request. Tell us the ages when you book, since each child seat takes a full place and can change how the rows are used.
For birthday parties, one seven seater can take a group of children and two adults to bowling, trampolining or the cinema. Parents often find that easier than a convoy of cars.
What a group taxi costs
We quote a fixed price before you book. A seven seater costs more than a saloon and less than two saloons. The minibus costs a little more again.
Here is a way to think about it. Divide the quote by the number of passengers. For most local and central London trips, the cost per person comes out lower than a single seat in a standard car.
Payment is by card or cash. Businesses and clubs that book regularly can open an account.
Pickups across SE26 and nearby
We collect groups from homes, pubs, restaurants, halls and stations throughout Sydenham. Popular meeting points include Sydenham station, the high street near Cobb's Corner and Bell Green.
One vehicle can make more than one pickup. Tell us each address in order. Groups starting in neighbouring areas can also use our Penge taxi and Forest Hill taxi pages.
7 seater taxi questions
How many people fit in a 7 seater taxi?
Seven passengers plus the driver. Every passenger needs a seat and a seat belt, children included.
How much luggage can a 7 seater take?
With all seven seats in use, only soft bags and a couple of cabin cases. If you have full sized suitcases, ask for the 8 seater minibus.
Do you have an 8 seater taxi?
Yes. Our minibus carries eight passengers and has more luggage space. Book early, as there are fewer of them.
Can we be collected from different addresses?
Yes. Give us each address when you book. Extra pickups may affect the fare, and we will confirm the total first.
Can I book a 7 seater for late at night?
Yes. We are open 24 hours. Book the return in advance, because larger vehicles are in short supply late on weekend nights.
Is a 7 seater cheaper than two cars?
Normally yes. One larger vehicle usually costs less than two standard cars for the same trip.
Can a group of nine or more travel with you?
Yes. We send more than one vehicle, timed to leave and arrive together. Tell us the numbers and we will work out the best combination.
