Sydenham to Waterloo Station Taxi

A Sydenham to Waterloo Station taxi links SE26 with the busiest railway terminal in the country. Waterloo is where trains leave for Southampton, Portsmouth, Bournemouth, Exeter and Windsor, and it stands on the south side of the Thames, only about 7 miles from Sydenham Road. No bridge to cross, no change of trains, and a driver who uses these roads daily.

Why people take a minicab from Sydenham to Waterloo

Waterloo is close as the crow flies, yet there is no direct train from Sydenham. The usual rail route goes to London Bridge and then one stop on the Jubilee line or a hop from Waterloo East. That is two trains and a fair walk between them.

A minicab from Sydenham to Waterloo skips the interchange. It is especially useful in three situations.

  • Cruise passengers heading to Southampton with a fortnight's luggage
  • Early trains to the south coast, when local services have barely started
  • Evenings at the theatre or concert hall, when you would like a simple ride home

Whatever the reason, you get a quoted price and a pickup time that suits your train.

The route from SE26 to Waterloo

Drivers leave Sydenham by Kirkdale or Dartmouth Road and pass through Forest Hill. The car then follows Peckham Rye to Camberwell Green, takes Camberwell Road and Walworth Road to the Elephant and Castle, and finishes along London Road and Waterloo Road.

An alternative uses Denmark Hill and Kennington Park Road. It is a little longer but avoids Walworth Road, which is slow on market days.

Typical journey time

The typical journey time is 35 to 55 minutes. The route is all urban, with plenty of traffic lights and bus lanes, so the time of day matters more than the distance. Before 7am, half an hour is usual.

Leaving enough time

South Western Railway trains leave from 24 platforms, and the walk from the kerb to the higher numbered ones takes five minutes. Arrive 20 minutes before departure and you will not need to run.

Where the car stops at Waterloo

Waterloo has entrances on several sides. Private hire cars usually set down on Station Approach Road, which climbs to the main concourse level, or on Waterloo Road by the bus stops. There is also an exit on York Road facing the South Bank.

If you have heavy cases, ask for Station Approach, since it brings you level with the platforms. For the Underground, Waterloo Road is closer to the Tube entrance.

Cruise connections to Southampton

A large share of our Waterloo bookings are cruise passengers. Trains to Southampton Central take around an hour and a quarter, and they run several times an hour.

Cruise luggage is bulky. Two people can easily have four large cases and hand bags as well. An estate car is the minimum we would suggest, and a 6 seater taxi gives more room for a party of four.

Tell us the time your ship starts boarding. We will help you choose a train with a safe margin and set the pickup around it.

Taxi from Waterloo to Sydenham

For the trip home, book a taxi from Waterloo to Sydenham in advance and give us your train's arrival time. Your driver will call or text when you arrive and agree a meeting place, normally Station Approach Road.

Late services from Portsmouth and Southampton arrive after 11pm. Our office is open through the night, so the hour makes no difference. If the train is delayed, phone 020 8778 8888 and we will change the pickup.

St Thomas' Hospital and the Evelina

St Thomas' Hospital and the Evelina London Children's Hospital are a short distance from Waterloo on Westminster Bridge Road. Many Sydenham families attend clinics there.

We will drop you at the hospital entrance you need. For a child's appointment, ask for a child seat when you book. If you are being discharged and need extra time to get to the car, tell us and the driver will wait at the agreed spot.

An evening on the South Bank

The Royal Festival Hall, the National Theatre, the BFI, the Old Vic and the London Eye are all within ten minutes' walk of the station. Dinner and a show on the South Bank is a popular night out from Sydenham.

Booking a car both ways means nobody has to drive or keep an eye on the last train. Give us the time your performance ends. The driver will wait on a nearby side street, such as Belvedere Road or Upper Ground, and ring you.

Race days, rugby and days by the sea

Waterloo is the starting point for a long list of days out, and those bookings have a pattern.

Trains to Twickenham carry rugby crowds on international weekends. Ascot is on the Reading line, and in June the platforms fill with hats and morning suits. Hampton Court, Windsor and Kew are all easy trips from here as well.

On summer weekends, families head for Bournemouth, Weymouth and the New Forest. If you are carrying beach bags, a cool box and a pushchair, an estate car to the station makes the first leg painless.

For big events, trains home are packed and often late. Book the return car with a little slack and ring us from the train with a better estimate once you are moving.

Commuters and regular bookings

Some customers travel to Waterloo at the same time each week. If that is you, ask about a regular booking. We keep the details on file, so one call sets up the same pickup for as many weeks as you need.

Businesses near the station, around Lower Marsh, The Cut and York Road, can open an account with us. Journeys are invoiced weekly, and staff do not have to pay on the day.

Choosing the right vehicle

A saloon suits up to four passengers with two large cases. An estate adds boot space. MPVs carry six or seven, and the 8 seater minibus takes a full group.

Travelling with a pet to the coast? Our pet friendly taxi page explains how to book. We can also send a wheelchair accessible vehicle on request.

Fares and the Congestion Charge

We give you a quote before the journey. Waterloo Station falls inside the central Congestion Charge zone, which applies during the day on weekdays and for part of the day at weekends.

Ask us whether the charge is included in your fare. Trips in the evening and at night are normally outside charging hours. You can pay by card or cash.

Other stations and airports we cover

Waterloo East, next door, has trains from Lower Sydenham on the Hayes line. Those services continue one stop to the West End, which our Sydenham to Charing Cross Station taxi page covers. For Thameslink and Kent trains, see the Sydenham to London Bridge Station taxi page.

If you are flying from the docklands, we run London City Airport cabs from Sydenham. And customers on the Catford side of Sydenham can book through our Catford taxi page.

How to book your Waterloo car

Call 020 8778 8888 or complete the form at the top of this page. We need the pickup address, the time of your train, passenger numbers and a mobile number.

For returns, tell us where your train is coming from. That lets us check its progress and send the driver at the right moment.
