Hotel journeys we do most often
Hotel work is varied, but four kinds of trip make up most of it.
- From home in Sydenham to an airport hotel the night before an early flight
- From a central London hotel back to SE26 after an event
- From a hotel near Crystal Palace, Bromley or Croydon to visit relatives in Sydenham
- From a hotel to an airport or station at the end of a stay
Each has its own timing, so the sections below take them one at a time.
Airport hotels the night before you fly
A 6am departure means a 3am alarm if you travel on the day. Lots of people prefer to sleep at the airport instead.
We take you from Sydenham to your hotel in the evening, once the roads have quietened down. Gatwick hotels are spread between the two terminals and the surrounding villages, so give us the full name and address. Several chains have more than one hotel at the same airport, and going to the wrong one is a common mix up.
At Heathrow, hotels line the Bath Road north of the airport and cluster around Terminals 4 and 5. Tell us the one you have booked. For the route and timings, see the Sydenham to Heathrow Airport taxi page, or the minicab from Sydenham to Gatwick Airport page.
A night in a central London hotel
Anniversaries, theatre weekends, a treat after a long year. Staying in the West End for a night is popular with our local customers, and nobody wants to drag a weekend bag through the Tube.
We drop you at the hotel entrance. Many central hotels are on busy roads, so the driver will pull up as near to the door as the rules allow. A porter will often come out for the bags.
Check out is usually late morning. Book the return for about 15 minutes after you plan to leave, and wait in the lobby. The driver will phone when the car is outside.
Visitors staying near Sydenham
Sydenham itself has few hotels, so guests visiting family here tend to stay a short drive away. Crystal Palace has hotels along Church Road. Bromley, Croydon, Lewisham and Greenwich all have a wider choice.
That creates a lot of short evening trips. Dinner at a relative's house in SE26, then back to the hotel at 10.30pm. Visitors usually do not know the buses, and they should not have to learn them.
Book both legs at once, or ring us when the evening winds down. The office is open all night.
Typical times from Sydenham to nearby hotel areas
| Hotel area | Typical evening drive |
|---|---|
| Crystal Palace, Church Road | 8 to 12 minutes |
| Bromley town centre | 20 to 30 minutes |
| Croydon town centre | 25 to 35 minutes |
| Greenwich | 25 to 35 minutes |
| London Bridge and Bankside | 30 to 45 minutes |
These are typical figures for an ordinary evening, and they can stretch at weekends.
Weddings, parties and family occasions
When a wedding brings relatives from all over the country, somebody ends up running a taxi rota. Hand that job to us.
Give us a list of who is staying where, the ceremony time and the venue. We will plan cars to collect each group from their hotel and bring them back at the end of the night. A 7 seater taxi or an 8 seater minibus can move a whole family in one go.
The same goes for christenings, big birthdays, funerals and reunions. One phone call, one plan, and everybody gets there on time. Ask about executive cars for the bridal party or for guests of honour.
Business travellers and conferences
Hotels near ExCeL, the O2 and Canary Wharf fill up with delegates through the year. If you live in Sydenham and are attending an event, a car there and back is simpler than the DLR with a display stand under your arm.
Companies that bring visitors to offices in south east London can open an account with us. We collect guests from their hotel, take them to meetings and return them afterwards. Invoices go out weekly.
For flights from the Royal Docks, see our London City Airport cabs from Sydenham page.
Hotel pickups and how they work
Hotels are easy places to meet a driver, provided a couple of things are clear.
Give us the hotel's full name and street. Wait in the lobby, not on the pavement, particularly at night. The driver will call the mobile number on the booking when the car arrives. If you do not have a British mobile, tell the reception desk you are expecting a car from Sydenham Mini Cabs, and we can ring the hotel instead.
Private hire cars must be booked in advance and cannot be hailed. A car that offers you a ride outside a hotel without a booking is not one of ours.
From your hotel to the station
Leaving London by train? We take hotel guests to every main terminal. The Sydenham to King's Cross Station taxi page covers trains to the north, and the Sydenham to Victoria Station taxi page covers coaches and the south coast.
Allow more time than you think. Checking out, settling the bill and collecting stored luggage can take 15 minutes at a busy desk.
Late arrivals and early check outs
Hotels and flights rarely keep the same hours. If your guest lands at midnight, we collect them from the airport and take them straight to the hotel, which will hold a room for late check in when asked. If you must leave at 4am for a flight, book the car the evening before and ask reception for a wake up call. Our office is staffed through the night, so you can ring to confirm the driver is on the way.
Luggage and choosing a car
Hotel stays mean suitcases. A saloon takes up to four passengers with two large cases. An estate takes four people and more bags. A 6 seater taxi handles a family with holiday luggage.
Child seats are available on request, and we can send a wheelchair accessible vehicle if you ask when booking. Visitors with pets should read our pet friendly taxi page.
Prices and payment
We quote your fare when you book. For hotel transfers the price depends on distance, vehicle and time of day. Journeys into central London may involve the Congestion Charge, and airport hotels may involve drop off fees, so ask us what is included.
You can pay by card or cash. Guests from overseas often find card easiest.

Hotel transfer questions
Can you collect guests from a hotel and bring them to Sydenham?
Yes. Give us the hotel name and address, the time and a phone number for the guest. The driver will call on arrival and wait at the entrance.
Do you go to airport hotels as well as the terminals?
Yes. Tell us the exact hotel, including which branch if the chain has several at that airport. We will take you to the door.
Can I book cars for a group of wedding guests?
Yes. Send us the hotels, numbers and times and we will plan the vehicles. MPVs and an 8 seater minibus are available for larger groups.
What if my guest does not have a UK mobile phone?
Tell us when you book. We can call the hotel reception, or you can give us your own number as the contact.
How long should I allow from a central London hotel to Sydenham?
Typically 40 to 60 minutes from the West End, and less from London Bridge or Bankside. Late at night the drive is quicker.
Can the driver help with luggage?
Drivers will help load and unload bags. If you have very heavy or awkward items, mention them when you book so we send a car with enough space.
Can I pay for a relative's hotel transfer myself?
Yes. Tell us who is paying when you book. Account customers can have the journey added to their weekly invoice.
