Minicab Sydenham to Gatwick Airport

Minicab Sydenham to Gatwick Airport is our most booked airport journey, and for good reason. Gatwick is the closest big airport to SE26, about 22 miles south, and the road there avoids central London completely. We quote the fare up front, send a car that fits your bags and get you to the right terminal door.

Why Book a Gatwick Airport Taxi from Sydenham

The train can work for Gatwick, but not from Sydenham directly. You need to get to East Croydon first, change platforms with your cases and then stand on a busy Brighton line service. Early in the morning the first connection may not line up with your check in.

A Gatwick airport taxi from Sydenham removes the changes. The car collects you at home, whether that is off Kirkdale, near Mayow Park or down by Bell Green, and the next time you lift a case is at the terminal.

It also suits the return leg. After a late landing, the last thing most people want is a platform at midnight. Your driver is waiting and you are home in SE26 in about an hour.

Gatwick Terminals

Gatwick has two terminals, North and South. They are a few minutes apart and joined by a free shuttle train, but being dropped at the correct one saves time and a walk with luggage. Your booking confirmation shows which you need.

Gatwick North Terminal Transfers

Gatwick North Terminal transfers approach from the M23 spur and follow the signs round the perimeter road to the North Terminal forecourt. Several large holiday and long haul airlines use this terminal. Drop off is outside departures on the upper level.

Gatwick South Terminal Taxi

A Gatwick South Terminal taxi comes off the same M23 spur and reaches the South Terminal first. The railway station is attached to this terminal. If friends are arriving by train to meet you, South is the natural place to gather.

Route, Journey Time and Traffic Tips (M25 / M23)

From Sydenham we normally run south through Penge and Elmers End towards Croydon, then pick up the A23 at Purley Way. The A23 carries on through Purley and Coulsdon to Hooley, where it becomes the M23. The motorway crosses the M25 at junction 7 and Gatwick is signed from junction 9.

The typical journey time is 50 to 70 minutes. Here is what tends to slow it down.

  • Purley Way on Saturday mornings, when the retail parks are busy
  • The A23 through Coulsdon in the evening peak
  • The M25 and M23 interchange on summer Fridays
  • Roadworks on the smart motorway section near the airport

Drivers check traffic before they set off and may switch to the A22 through Caterham to join the M25 at junction 6 instead. We suggest leaving Sydenham three hours before a European flight and four before a long haul one.

Gatwick Airport Cars

Gatwick airport cars come in four sizes. Think about how many cases you really have, including the ones you will bring back.

Saloon

A saloon is right for up to four passengers with standard luggage. Most couples and solo travellers choose it.

Estate

The estate carries four passengers and has a longer, deeper boot. Golf clubs, a travel cot or a large pushchair fit without squeezing.

MPV

An MPV seats six or seven. Families often book our 6 seater taxi so the grandparents can ride in the same car.

8 Seater Minibus

The 8 seater minibus is for groups, such as two families sharing a villa or a hen party flying out together. One vehicle, one pickup, one fare.

Meet and Greet Pickup at Gatwick

With a meet and greet pickup at Gatwick, your driver stands in the arrivals area with a name board. You walk out of customs, spot your name, and the driver takes you to the car.

We ask for your flight number on every pickup. It lets us follow the landing time and send the driver accordingly. A flight that lands 40 minutes late is not a problem you need to phone us about.

Private hire pickups at Gatwick use the short stay car parks next to each terminal, and the airport charges for parking. Ask when you book how parking and waiting time are covered in your price.

Sydenham Minicab Phone Number

The Sydenham minicab phone number is 020 8778 8888. Our office on Sydenham Road answers 24 hours a day, including bank holidays.

Tell us the pickup address, the terminal, your flight time and how many people are travelling. If you need a child seat, say so on the call and we will send a car with one fitted.

Book Gatwick Transfer Online

You can book a Gatwick transfer online with the form at the top of this page. Add your pickup postcode, select the terminal, pick a date and time and the system shows a quote for each vehicle size.

Booking the return at the same time is easier than doing it from a sun lounger. Add the inbound flight number and you are done.

Flying from elsewhere? We also offer a Sydenham to Heathrow Airport taxi and London City Airport cabs from Sydenham. For trains to the south coast, see the Sydenham to Victoria Station taxi page. Customers in SE20 and BR3 can book from our Penge taxi and Beckenham taxi pages, which sit right on the route south.

Gatwick Minicab FAQs

How long does a minicab from Sydenham to Gatwick take?

Typically 50 to 70 minutes. Night time and early morning runs are at the quicker end. On weekday afternoons the A23 through Purley and Coulsdon can add 15 to 20 minutes.

How far is Gatwick Airport from Sydenham?

Around 22 miles by the A23 and M23. The distance is almost the same for both terminals, as they share the motorway spur.

Does Gatwick charge for dropping off passengers?

Yes. Gatwick charges vehicles that use the forecourt drop off zones at both terminals. When you book, ask us whether the charge is part of your quote.

Which Gatwick terminal do I need?

Your airline decides. It is shown on your ticket and in the airline app. If you only have a flight number, give it to us and we will check the terminal with you before the car leaves.

Can you collect me from Gatwick late at night?

Yes. We work through the night. Flights that land after midnight are common in summer, and the driver follows your flight so the car is there when you land.

What if I have more luggage on the way back?

Tell us before the return day and we will change the vehicle. Moving from a saloon to an estate is easy to arrange with a phone call.

Is it better to take the M25 or go through Croydon?

From Sydenham the Croydon and A23 route is usually shorter. The M25 is only useful as a short link at junction 7. Drivers decide on the day using live traffic.
